The first troop of Bombay Horse Artillery was raised by the East India Company in 1811. William Brett (1803-1858) wears dark blue overalls and jacket with red collar and cuffs, all with elaborate gilt braid. Brett holds a leather helmet with gold crest, leopard skin turban and horsehair comb and plume.
